Charges withdrawn against suspect in Themane murder case
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that charges have been withdrawn against one of the adult suspects in the Thoriso Themane murder case.
The suspects appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates Court on Monday.
Spokesperson for the NPA in Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the case was withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.
Nine suspects, seven teenagers and two adults, are still facing charges in connection with Themane’s brutal murder after a 13-year-old suspect was arrested at the weekend.
The two remaining adult suspects were granted R1000 bail each.
The teenagers are set to appear in court again on Thursday, while the adults will be back in court on April 2.
Themane’s death hit the headlines after a video of his killing went viral.
The video showed Themane being dragged by a group of teenagers after being assaulted at Flora Park in Polokwane.
