Charlotte Maxeke Hospital open for business after roof collapse

The Gauteng health department says they have concluded their search-and-rescue operation and that services to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital will not be disrupted.
"Emergency services have concluded the search-and-rescue operation after a section of the roof, which was undergoing maintenance at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, caved in on Thursday," the department says.
According to a statement, the site has been cleared and the final mop-up operation is underway. Contingency plans have been put in place to ensure that the day-to-day hospital operations are not disrupted.

The department also indicated that an alternative entrance will be made available to patients.
Five patients were treated for minor injuries but were discharged last night. Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa will return to the hospital today.
"Gauteng Provincial Government and the National Department of Health would like to thank all the dedicated men and women who ensured that no life was lost," the department says,
The Minister of Health, Aaron Motsoaledi, lauded the provincial government for their response to the incident.
