Kaizer Chiefs are mourning the death of former player Lucky Maselesele, who was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg on Wednesday.
In a statement the club sent its condolences to the former player’s family.
“We would also like to thank the family for the support they gave him by letting Lucky showcase his talent to Amakhosi and SA football in general.”
It is alleged the 41-year-old Maselesele was assaulted for stealing electrical cables.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said Maselesele was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.
“Two suspects were arrested on the scene. Both suspects were charged with murder and one suspect appeared in Alexandra Magistrates Court on Friday. The case was postponed for bail application. Police are continuing with the investigation.”
