Chikunga happy with progress in Moloto Road refurbishment
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga expressed her satisfaction with the progress made with work to upgrade to the notorious Moloto Road.
Chikunga conducted an oversight visit to the regional route on Monday, which connects Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
The refurbishment to one of SA's most dangerous roads is being done by national roads agency SANRAL, and is expected to cost some R4.5 billion.
Chikunga says the project has also created job opportunities.
"Amongst the interventions was to then hand over this road to SANRAL for better construction and maintenance. As you can see now we have all these projects and as indicated we are adding lanes in some areas.
"Where it used to be a single lane, it is now going to be a double lane".
