Chikunga: Maya’s appointment as Chief Justice ‘monumental achievement’

The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities has congratulated Mandisa Maya on her appointment as Chief Justice.

Maya, the current deputy chief justice, will become the first woman to head the judiciary after she succeeds Raymond Zondo.
Zondo is set to retire at the end of August.
Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga said on Thursday that the country should be proud of its transformation efforts.
Chikunga delivered an address at the launch of Women's Month.
"We wish to congratulate Chief Justice Maya. This is a monumental achievement for the people of South Africa in pursuit of justice,” Chikunga said.
“She stands tall as an aspiration to all South Africans, especially for women from all walks of life.”
Chikunga also spoke of her pride at the achievements of South Africa’s Tatjana Smith at the Paris Olympics.
"In the same breadth, let me extend my heartfelt congratulations to Tatjana Smith, who won South Africa's gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said the minister.
“We wish Tatjana and the rest of South Africa's team the best of luck.”
