Child dies after ambulance robbed en route to hospital
Updated | By Laila Majiet & Sibahle Motha
An eight-year-old patient died after the ambulance he was being transported in was ambushed and robbed.

The child was confirmed dead in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Western Cape emergency services spokesperson Robert Daniels says the ambulance was ambushed on the N2 highway near Borcherds Quarry.
The ambulance was transporting the patient to Red Cross WarMemorial Children's Hospital.
Paramedics were held up by gunmen and robbed.
Daniels says the child died due to the delay caused by the attack.
This is not the first such attack on paramedics in the Western Cape.
In September, paramedics were also hijacked and robbed in Johannesburg.
Paramedics were attacked in Cosmo City in Roodepoort after responding to a fake report around midnight.
