Child porn suspect to remain behind bars
A 45-year-old suspect has been remanded in custody following his arrest on charges of sexually grooming a minor.
The suspect was arrested after an 11-year-old girl confided in her mother that she had been sexually abused for a period of four years.
The suspect stayed on the same property as the mother and child.
Provincial police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says the mother reported the allegations to the South African Police Service (SAPS) which led to a search and seize operation.
"The victim said she did not know that what he was doing was wrong.
"Two-hundred-and-forty-four CD/DVDs with child pornography, vibrators, lubricants, condoms, laptops and hard drives were seized."
The 45-year-old suspect appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate Court on Thursday.
"The case has been postponed to February 8 for a formal bail application. He faces charges of rape, sexual assault, grooming, exposing a child to pornography and possession of child pornography," says Dlamini.
