Chris Barnard's boots returned after 44 years
Updated | By Neo Leeuw
Two nurses who stole heart pioneer Professor Chris Barnard's theatre boots 44 years ago have confessed to their crime, Beeld reported on Monday.
Last week, Kirsty Templeton and Rene Bates walked into the Heart of Cape Town Museum, each with a boot, and told curator Hennie Joubert their tale.
The two nurses were reportedly cleaning a theatre one night, during their 1969 training at Groote Schuur Hospital.
They noticed Barnard's white theatre boots, which had his name written on them in large black letters. They decided to each steal one.
The next day, a big fuss was made and the pair was too scared to come clean.
They eventually decided to donate the boots to the Heart of Cape Town Museum.
