City Power warns of possible outages due to high demand

City Power has warned of possible power cuts in Alexandra, Tshepisong and other areas supplied by the city on Monday as the cooler weather sets in.

The city has experienced an increase in demand and this has put an already under pressure network under pressure.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the cold weather is a massive burden on the system.
“By midday we were responding to over 1100 outage calls from our customers. Areas such as Tshepisong, and Alexandra are experiencing a huge demand, with Line A & D feeding Tshepisong already lost from this morning due to overloading.”
Mangena says illegal connections and mushrooming backyard rooms and also contributing factors.
“We are also monitoring areas such as Kanana in Rabie Ridge, Kyasands, Zama Impilo Riverlea, Princess, Groblerspark, Stjwetla, Jeppe, Vlakfontein, Lawley Ext 2, Thembelihle, Slovopark, Motswledi, Freedom Park.
“We urge our customers to switch off non-essential applicances and power-guzzlers such as geysers, stoves, pool pumps, multiple-heaters, and hotplates to assist us in avoiding overloading which leads to unplanned outages,” says Mangena.
