City Power on high alert for outages amid extremely cold weather

City Power says they are on high alert with resources being dispatched to problematic areas amid extremely cold weather across Gauteng on Monday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has confirmed that several parts of the province are experiencing light snowfall as the country faces the coldest day of the year.
Over the weekend City Power said it recorded more than 2 000 incidents of cable theft and vandalism within a year in Johannesburg.
Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the incidents had been recorded during the 2022/23 financial year.
“City Power teams in different service delivery centres have so far managed the high demand of electricity very well, with fewer outages reported across Johannesburg overnight and on weekend.
“After the coldest night of Sunday, we opened this morning with less than a thousand outage calls with problematic areas such as Roodepoort, Randburg and Hursthill reporting an average of a hundred calls each.
“Our teams will continue to be on high alert with more resources directed to problematic areas as adverse temperatures are set to continue this way in the coming days,” added Mangena.
