City Power to install new cable amid widespread power outage
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
City Power says its technicians are working around the clock to restore power to several areas in Johannesburg that have been without electricity since Saturday.
The Inanda distributor from the Cydna substation tripped on Saturday due to multiple cable faults, affecting the power supply to Melrose, Athol, Inanda, Illovo and the surroundings.
“We ran into troubles after we fixed the cable that was faulty last night, and we were hoping to restore it but it showed another fault which is a third fault since the outage was reported on Saturday,” says City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
“Since we have cut this cable many times trying to fix it, we have decided to replace the whole cable with a 300-meter cable. One of the problems we faced was going through the waterlogged streams where the cable was running which delayed the work and caused damage to the cable.”
Meanwhile, power outages were also reported in parts of Alexandra, Eldorado Park, Bushkoppies, Aeroton, Ormonde and surrounding areas on Tuesday.
