Class of 2017: 'The ball is now in your court'

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) says academic success is now the responsibility of each individual matric pupil.

The department says everything is in place to ensure a smooth National Senior Certificate exams and the onus has now shifted to every Grade 12 pupil to put in the work.


MEC Panyaza Lesufi says they are confident no major issues will crop up during the exams. 


"We wish all our learners strength and success during this stressful period and appeal to everyone to provide the necessary support."



"A total of 150 090 candidates, including 108 594 full-time and 41 496 part-time candidates, have enrolled to write the NSCE. The total number of progressed learners for 2017 is 12 927," says Lesufi.

 

The South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) also wished the Class of 2017 well with their finals.


"These examinations are crucial in the lives of the learners as they mark an end of twelve years of basic and secondary schooling and are a gateway to tertiary education, work and career opportunities," says general secretary Mugwena Maluleke.


The National Senior Certificate exams will start tomorrow and conclude on November 28.
