Classes suspended at Vaal University
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Police fired rubber bullets at students on the main campus of the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark (VUT) on Thursday.
Police Captain Fikile Funda says are monitoring the situation after students attempted to set alight another building.
"The students are taking [on] security officers. They want to force their way into the main building because they want to torch the main campus building," Funda said.
Meanwhile, classes have been suspended indefinitely and students given 2.00pm to vacate the residences.
Various buildings were vandalised and set alight last night.
VUT spokesperson Mike Khuboni said they are assessing the situation.
"We are [meeting], as management, to decide on the situation as well as to how we can actually make recovery of the time lost," Khuboni said.
