The department has tracked down 1 322 pupils and tested 1050 for Covid-19.

"Of these, 984 tested positive and these students had 340 contacts of which 32 tested positive,” says the department's spokesperson Kwara Kekana.

"The department continues to plead with learners and their parents to cooperate with healthcare workers who are doing contact tracing as this is an important process aimed at stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

"Out of the total number of learners, 99 were uncooperative while the rest of the learners (173) either had supplied wrong contacts or were on voicemail."

Kekana once again urged everyone who attended Rage to quarantine for 14 days and urgently go for testing.

"Those that test positive will need to isolate for a mandatory 10 days and family contacts of those that test positive must also go for testing and must go into quarantine,” Kekana explains.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng sits at 244 242 with 230 578 recoveries and 5 108 deaths.

"Last week an increase in the number of positive cases was noted, with young people aged 11-20 constituting a large percentage of new cases,” says Kekana

"The department urges members of the public to protect themselves and others by avoiding the 3 Cs: Closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings."
