Eskom says due to the drop in temperatures, their system is under pressure, and they have pleaded with the public to switch off all non-essential appliances to keep demand down.

After implementing stage 5 power cuts on Friday, stage 4 is currently in place on Saturday, with stage 2 planned for Sunday.

Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena says they want to avoid higher stages of load shedding.

"We appeal to all members of the public to assist in maintaining the electricity demand to low levels by switching off non-essential appliances, mainly geysers and swimming pool pumps,” she says.
