Residents should expect cold temperatures from Tuesday morning going into Thursday.

SAWS Forecaster Tokelo Chiloane says the cold front will move east and exit the country on Tuesday morning, causing a significant drop in temperatures over the eastern parts of the country.

This while a slight improvement in day-time temperatures can be expected in the west.

"We do confirm that there is a cold front that is gonna pass through over the northern parts of the country from Monday evening to Tuesday morning.

"So, for Pretoria on Tuesday, the forecast is a maximum of 20° C, Johannesburg 17° C and Vereeniging 16° C. That is only in Gauteng, and in other provinces, the forecast is 18° C in Polokwane and Mbombela and Mafikeng is at 22° C and Bloemfontein is at 20° C.

"So, this is just an indication that the cold front is dropping temperatures and it is going to cause some low minimum, especially in the Gauteng Province and parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo," says Chiloane.

She says light rain is also expected over parts of Mpumalanga.

"In terms of rainfall, no rainfall is expected except for the low escapement and Lowveld of Mpumalanga where we are expecting some light drizzles in the morning (on Tuesday) and some showers later on in thge day.

"It will be cloudy to partly cloudy across all these provinces and the temperatures will start to recover from Thursday and going into the weekend we will be back in our warm summer temperature."
