Cold snap expected in parts of SA, with snow, gale force winds, heavy rain

Temperatures are expected to drop in the Western Cape as a cold front makes landfall on Thursday morning.
The cold front is also expected to bring isolated and scattered thundershowers in parts of the province.
South African Weather Service forecaster Kumsa Masizana says a warning has also been issued for heavy rains that could lead to localised flooding in the south-west coat of the province.
“As the cold front moves through to Thursday and Friday, it will leave behind still some cold air, dropping the temperatures over the central interior and the southern provinces.
“Snow is also likely in the high-lying parts of the Western Cape,” Masizana adds.
KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape are also told to brace themselves.
“Apart from the temperatures, we are also expecting some strong galeforce winds along the coastal areas
Wind speeds are expected to reach 70 km/hour.
“As the cold front starts moving, the and speeds are going to pick up over the interior so areas to monitor is the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and southern areas of the Northern Cape.
“With winds so strong runaway fires are definitely possible in those areas.”
