The South African Weather Service has warned Gauteng residents to brace themselves for a cold, wet and windy weekend.
The weather service says this coming weekend will mark the start of what it predicts to be a cold winter.
Forecaster Wayne Venter says maximum temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-teens.
"We have a system, called a cut-off low, that is developing this week especially on Thursday evening into Friday over the central and western parts of South Africa.

"It will bring some cold and wet conditions to the central and western parts of the country. We expect those rainy conditions to move into parts of Gauteng, especially during the course of Friday night into Saturday.
"That will be accompanied by cold conditions. We're looking at maximum temperatures on Saturday only reaching mid-teens in Gauteng. Things will start clearing out on Sunday but we will still be experiencing cold temperatures."
