African Weather Service has warned of windy and stormy conditions over parts of the country this weekend.

“Apart from the interior of the Western Cape, the western parts of the Northern Cape and the central and eastern parts of Limpopo where no rainfall is forecast at this stage, citizens across other parts of the country could experience scattered (60%) to isolated (30%) showers and thundershowers,” the weather service says.
“Furthermore, strong winds may affect some poorly anchored informal settlements over the central areas of the country, including northern Free State, North West and eastern areas of the Northern Cape.”
The weather service says severe thunderstorms, with hail and strong damaging winds, are also possible over Northern Cape, Free State and North West.
“This anticipated change in weather conditions follows the development of a well-defined and slowmoving upper-air trough with persistent low-level onshore flow onto the south-eastern areas of the country.”
In Gauteng, roads were severely affected on Friday morning.
Tshwane Emergency Services Spokesperson Charles Mabaso has asked motorists to be cautious.
“Parts of Tshwane are experiencing rain since the early hours of this morning, leading to slippery conditions on the roads as well as some flooding of low-lying areas.
“We would like to urge motorists to drive with caution and keep a safe following distance.”
