Coligny duo found guilty of murder
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Two men have been convicted of the murder of 16-year-old Matlhomola Mosheu.
The North West High Court found that Pieter Doorewaard and Phillip Schutte murdered Mosheu in Coligny in April last year.
The duo killed Mosheu after accusing him of stealing a sunflower head.
Mosheu died when blood entered his lung, and subsequently compromised his ventilation.
However both accused maintained that Mosheu jumped out of the bakkie on the way to the police station.
"Both accused are found guilty as charged on count 1, which is a count of murder, count 2 kidnapping, count 3, count 4 theft and count 7, which is pointing of a firearm," said Judge Ronald Hendricks.
Coligny was brought to a standstill after Mosheu’s death last year, where shops belonging to white people were looted and burned.
The incident further heightened racial tensions in the area.
The matter has stood down and will continue on Thursday at 10:00.
Both convicts will remain in custody.
