Grade 12 pupils are due to start writing their National Senior Certificate Exams on Monday, 30 October.

Last week, education quality assurance body Umalusi highlighted load shedding, cheating and community protests as some of the factors that could possibly disrupt the smooth running of the matric exams.

Naptosa's executive director, Basil Manuel, says they share similar concerns.

"We appeal that if there are protests, which may be completely legitimate, and we understand that, don't disrupt the school exam and the life chances of the children as they embark on this journey for one of the most important exams in their life.”

South Africa’s official matric pass rate for 2022 was 80.1%, an increase from the 76.4% pass rate of 2021.
