Competition Commission dismisses school uniform pricing complaint
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The Competition Commission will not refer the issue of school uniforms pricing to the Competition Tribunal for prosecution.
In 2022, the commission received complaints about the alleged overcharging of school uniforms by various Gauteng schools.
The commission’s spokesperson, Siyabulela Makunga, said on Monday they could not find relevant and substantive information that could sustain the allegations.
"And for this reason, we decided not to refer this matter to the Competition Tribunal for prosecution.”
Earlier this year, the National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) said it sees no problem with schools increasing uniform prices as long as their policy adheres to national guidelines.
