Concern over KaNyamazane learners as violent protests drag on
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The Department of Education in Mpumalanga has expressed its concern over the impact of the violent protest in KaNyamazane near Mbombela.
Schooling in the area has been disrupted for an entire week.
Preliminary examinations for Grade 12 are expected to start later this month.
The department’s Jasper Zwane says learners in the area are losing valuable time as exams approach.
"We are appealing to the leadership, leading this protest... we need to make sure our leaners return to that teaching and learning is restored," says Zwane.

The police in the province say the situation is still tense as the protest has spread to neighbouring communities.
Spokesperson Leonard Hlathi has urged the protesters not to prevent pupils from attending school and to air their grievances within the constraints of the law.
"Committing crime is when we get into loggerheads with community members," says Hlathi.
