ConCourt halts Hoërskool Overvaal battle
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Trade union Solidarity has welcomed a ruling by the Constitutional Court halting the legal battle between Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and Hoërskool Overvaal.
Lesufi last year instructed the Afrikaans school to take in 55 additional English-speaking learners in the 2018 school year.
Solidarity's Deputy Johan Kruger says they believe Lesufi failed to take into account there are two schools in the area offering English as a medium of instruction.
"We think this is a great step forward because more and more single medium schools, especially Afrikaans are forced to take in more people when they have reached capacity despite the language policy.”
He hopes the ruling will send a strong message to Lesufi that there are policies in place.

Gauteng's department of education said they are studying the ruling and cannot comment yet.
