IPID confirms blue light attack charges, notes more could be added

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says charges have officially been brought against the SAPS members accused of assaulting three civilians on the N1 in Johannesburg.
On Wednesday, four bodyguards attached to Deputy President Paul Mashatile's were suspended following the incident.
"The charges to be investigated are assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property with regards to the vehicle that was damaged, and (the) pointing of a firearm," says Ipid’s Robbie Raburabu.
He notes though that it’s too early to say how many people face possible arrest.
“SAPS said they are suspending four people, but we know that they were more than that. The other charges may not cover others but those who were not seen in the video. It will be difficult to say the charges are against how many people were involved.”
Raburaru could also not say when arrests in the case could be expected.
"It is too early to say when they will appear before the court because we just started with our investigation," he says.
