Construction of new Honeydew substation underway

The City of Johannesburg has begun with the construction of a new substation in Honeydew.
Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba attended the sod-turning ceremony at the Lutz substation on Tuesday.
The project will cost the city R105 million.
Mashaba says despite the infrastructure backlog, he hopes the project will be completed on time.
“When you are committed to delivering a project, deliver it. Deliver it on time and deliver it within budget because we do not have an unlimited budget but at the same time we have the need.
“All of you who are here, members of the community you are going to be the beneficiaries in fact whether you live here or you live in Centurion or you live in Alexandra.”
The city’s MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Nico de Jager says, once completed, the constant power cuts in the area will hopefully be a thing of the past.
