Cop arrested for teen's rape
Updated | By Laila Majiet
The 32-year-old constable, who was stationed at the Moroka Police Station in Soweto, is accused of repeatedly raping the teenager over the weekend.
Ipid spokesperson Grace Langa says the teen's mother opened a case at the Protea Glen Police Station on Thursday.
It is alleged the officer was in a relationship with the girl.
"Because the girl is underage, the mother has a right to open a case, regardless of whether they had a relationship or not," Langa explains.
"It is still an allegation that the pair were in a relationship. We will have more details as the investigation continues."
The child left for school on Friday morning and only returned home on Monday raising the alarm, Langa says.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday.
