Cop killed in Vanderbijlpark cash-in-transit heist

A police officer has been killed in a cash-in-transit robbery along the R57 near Vanderbiljpark.
An unknown number of suspects attacked the cash van on Friday.
Four people, including three security officials, were injured after the group of armed suspects blew up the van.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the police responded to the attack with gunfire.
A manhunt has been launched after the suspects fled the scene with the cash.
“Sadly, one of the members attached to the TRT unit was fatally wounded in a crossfire involving the suspects. Another police officer and three security officials who sustained injuries during the attack were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” says Mathe.
“The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a white Toyota Fortuner and a red Hyundai SUV.”
