Cop tells court of ‘good relationship’ with Meyiwa accused

A witness in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Sergeant Vus'umuzi Mogane, has testified about the “good relationship” he had with two of the accused Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi.

Mogane also told the High Court in Pretoria on Friday that his relationship with the pair was so good that Ntanzi even related a story to him about being a great traditional Zulu dancer.

"You were involved in the booking out and booking in of accused one and two. How was your relationship with them," probed state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi.

"We had a good relationship; we did not fight, and we also were talking to each other, and they were relaxed. At one time, accused two once intimated that he is a great Zulu dancer who is capable of putting his foot under his armpit," responded Mogane.

Mogane, who is attached to South African Police Services' cold case units, is one of the state's key witnesses in the trial.

He was part of a team that arrested Ntanzi in Phokeng, Rustenburg, in 2020.

Mogane would also be part of a team that drove Ntanzi to Boksburg, where he would allegedly confess the details of Meyiwa's murder for the second time.

He was also one of the officers responsible for transporting Sibiya to Meyiwa's murder scene.

Mogane's testimony forms part of the trial within a trial which is set to challenge the admissibility of the alleged statements made by the pair.
