COPE says the ANC has become a “criminal syndicate thriving on corruption”

The Congress of the People has lashed out at the African National Congress (ANC), describing the ruling party as becoming a “criminal syndicate thriving on corruption”.
COPE has reacted with fury after this week’s explosive testimony at the State Capture Commission about alleged unlawful operations within the State Security Agency (SSA) that allowed officials to spend millions of rands.
On Friday, anonymous witness known as Miss K, testified how the SSA withdrew R19 million on the eve of the ANC’s National Elective Conference held in Nasrec in December 2017.
She told the Commission that there was never a clear indication how the money would be spent and the various separate withdrawals are still under investigation.

In reaction, COPE spokesperson Denis Bloem says the party is giving the ANC seven days to repay the R19 million.
He adds that failure to do will result in criminal charges being laid against the ANC.
“This damning allegations before the Zondo Commission must not be taken lightly. It is illegal and a serious offence to steal taxpayers money and worse for Party Political activities.
“It is disgusting that the ANC can stoop so low,” says Bloem.
