Cosatu calls for Motsoaledi's head

The federation reacted to Motsoaledi admitting the embattled health system is facing serious challenges, but denying it’s on the brink of collapse.

Cosatu says it is disappointed in Mostoaledi’s denialism and accuse the minister of scapegoating.

Cosatu's Sizwe Pamla also refers to the Health Standards Compliance report that painted a depressing picture.

"We feel the President has to bring someone new with new ideas," says Pamla.

Pamla says even though Motsoaledi tried his best in the office for nine years, his best is not good enough.

"We do not think after a decade, if you do not see any improvement, you should persist and continue and allow the very same person to implement the very same ideas that have not worked for the last nine years."

Pamla acknowledges Motsoaledi inherited an ailing system. However, he points out that the minister has had nine years to propose corrective legislature to redress the failing health system.

Pamla says for the new dawn to be realised government cannot continue to pander at mediocrity.

"The fact that the minister is a nice person... should not cloud us that the health system is failing and people in South Africa continue to die daily."
