Cosatu urges Ramaphosa to take action against Mboweni
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to take action against Finance Minister Tito Mboweni following his Twitter spat with Gauteng Premier David Makhura.
During his recent State of the Province Address, Makhura assured motorists that his government is working to get rid of e-tolls as the provincial African National Congress (ANC) does not believe there is any space for the unpopular system in Gauteng.
But Mboweni fired back on social media, insisting that e-tolls are here to stay.

Cosatu's Sizwe Pamla says they back Makhura since as getting rid of e-tolls is an African National Congress (ANC) resolution.
"We never endorsed Mboweni when he was appointed, we told the president that he has problematic tendencies. Every now and then when he is excited he tweets like a drunk teenager and that is not what we want from a finance minister."
Pamla says the fact that Ramaphosa was forced to release a statement to tell Makhura and Mboweni to hold fire shows he is becoming weak when he needs to be decisive.
