The NPA’s Investigating Directorate arrested former SA Local Government Association chief executive Thabo Mokwena, Eskom's former interim Chief Executive Matshela Koko, his wife Mosima Koko, and Koko’s stepdaughters Koketso Aren and Thato Choma, as well as Eskom Project Director at Kusile Hlupheka Sithole, lawyer Johannes Coetzee and Watson Seswai on Thursday.

The eight made a brief appearance in court on the same day on charges of corruption, fraud, and money laundering.

The Investigating Directorate alleges that Koko influenced and abused his position in a closed tender process to build the Kusile power station in Mpumalanga.

He and his family face allegations of benefiting through money laundering via the multibillion-rand contract.

Koko was granted bail of R300 000.

Bail for his co-accused was set from at least R70 000.

The matter returns to court on the 23rd of March.
