Court grants Teffo R10 000 bail in contempt of court case
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Advocate Malesela Teffo maintains top officials within the police service and the National Prosecuting Authority are behind his arrest.
Teffo appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Friday on a charge of contempt where he was released on R10 000 bail.
He failed to appear in the same court on two occasions after developing Covid-19 symptoms together with his lawyer.
Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says they needed to take action against Teffo for disobeying court orders.
"Once he is in contravention of a court order for him to appear in court it is an offence and as NPA we need to take necessary action, the procedure is that if one does not attend court the prosecutor will apply for a warrant of arrest, and this is what happened."
Mjonondwane says Advocate Teffo is facing more charges filed by former colleagues at the Gauteng provincial head office.
"We can confirm that there are several cases opened against Teffo, currently at this court there are two cases. First case was opened in July 2020 for assault and trespassing which was later withdrawn. In March 2021, a case of trespassing was opened against him."
The case has been postponed to 27 May for next court appearance.
