Court reinstates Prasa Board
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has ordered the reinstatement of the board of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and its chairman Popo Molefe.
Delivering judgment this morning, the court set aside the decision by former transport minister Dipuo Peters to dissolve the Prasa board. Peters has since resigned as ANC MP after President Jacob Zuma fired her during his recent cabinet reshuffle.
The Transport Minister has also been ordered to pay the costs of the application.
Molefe and the board were dismissed after it accused former acting Prasa CEO Collins Letsoalo of unlawfully increasing his salary by 350%, the latest in a long line of scandals to hit the entity.
But Molefe accused Peters of not following proper procedures when she decided to dissolve the board.
The Department of Transport says it has noted the ruling.
"The department will study in detail the judgment and will further comment at a later stage," spokesman Ishmael Mnisi said.
