Covid-19 deaths in SA breach the 60-thousand mark

South Africa recorded 382 new Covid-19 related deaths in the 24 hours up to Thursday evening.
The latest data from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) shows that the total coronavirus related fatalities have now breached the 60 000 mark, standing at 61 029.
There have been 21 584 new Covid-19 cases reported across the country in the latest 24-hour period.
This brings South Africa’s total infections to 1,995,556.
The increase represents a 28.4% positivity rate.
Gauteng reported yet another recorded high – of 12 806 new cases.
The Gauteng province accounts for a majority of the new cases (59%), followed by the Western Cape (11%) and North West (7%) provinces.
An increase of 769 hospital admissions has been reported in the past 24 hours.
