Covid-19 infections top 1 600 for second consecutive day

The number of new Covid-19 cases in South Africa has increased by 1 632, the Department of Health has announced.

It says 56 people have died from Covid-related complications, taking the death toll to 54 406.
Most of the deaths were reported in the Western Cape.
Active cases now stand at 21 705, with the most of the case in KwaZulu-Natal.
The recovery rate remains at 95 percent.
