The Western Cape government says the current Covid-19 positivity rate in the province is equal to what the province experience during the first wave of infections in May.
The province’s Head of Health Dr Keith Cloete says the Western Cape is seeing a significant increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
“The province as a whole continues to see a big increase in cases when you look at the test positivity rate for tests, we are now above 20%,when we were 16% a week ago.
“We are now starting to match the levels we saw about a 3rd week of May in the initial surge.”

The Western Cape and Eastern Cape are currently recording a significant increase in Covid-19 infections.
Both provinces collectively account for 33.3% of the country’s Covid-19 cases and almost 50% of its fatalities.
The surge in both provinces has since compelled the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) to look at targeted ways of slowing down the rate of infection in the two provinces.
