Masuku was speaking at the provincial government’s weekly update on its efforts to combat the virus.
He said while Gauteng remains the epicentre of the outbreak, the province has also seen the bulk of the recoveries.

"It gives us hope and courage on how we can be able to defeat Covid-19. The mortality rate is still at 1% which is something we want to keep it there, although every life is regrettable.
"We are still going to increase in recoveries in the coming weeks because the number of those hospitalised still remains constant. It is important to also say that we do have people in the high-risk group who have recovered.”
Masuku warned that the province is not nearly out of the woods as it is still preparing for the peak of the virus.
The province has 8000 beds available at its various hospital and would like to increase availability to 9000.
