Covid-19 recovery rate inches up to 85%

The Covid-19 death toll has increased to 13 502 after 194 new deaths were recorded in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday evening.
KwaZulu-Natal recorded 57 new Covid-related deaths, while there were 61 in Gauteng, 4 in Northern Cape, 12 from Eastern Cape and 60 from Western Cape.
Despite the decrease in the number of daily Covid-19 infections, the death rate continues to rise.
The number of cumulative cases now sits at of 615 701.
Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize show that a total of 3 598 973 tests have been conducted since the start of the pandemic.
The recovery rate also keeps rising.
“Our recoveries now stand at 525 242, which translates to a recovery rate of 85%,” said Mkhize.
