Covid-19: SA record 3000 new cases, 110 deaths

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has reported 3 118 new Covid-19 cases over the latest 24-hour reporting cycle.
This brings the country’s total number of laboratory-confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 3 665 149.
The latest increase pushes the country’s positivity rate to 8.7%.
Gauteng accounts for 1 114 of the country’s new cases.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (36%), followed by Western Cape (21%). Kwa-Zulu Natal accounted for 15%; Mpumalanga accounted for 9% and North West accounted for 7%. Free State accounted for 4%; Eastern Cape and Limpopo each accounted for 3% respectively and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of today’s new cases,” the NICD said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
The Department of Health also reported another backlog in Covid-19 deaths.
This is due to an ongoing audit exercise by the department.
It has reported 110 Covid-related deaths and of these, six occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours.
This brings the total fatalities to 98 978.
There has been an increase of 86 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours with 3 097 people currently admitted in both private and public health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 88 698 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
