The court is hearing an urgent application to seek reinstatement of its oversight role for the payment of social grants.

CPS' contract with SASSA was found by the court to be invalid in 2014 and comes to an end on 31 March 2017.

SASSA and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has asked the court to extend the contract with CPS for 12 to 18 months.

Speaking to JacarandaFM News outside court, Belamant said SASSA paying social grants itself is a great idea.

"We've been saying that for the last 11 years," said Belamant.

"We've actually proposed that during the next two years - which was the transition period - we would assist SASSA to take over the payment system entirely so we could step away from them one and for all, to be quite honest, and step away from the paid publicity and candidly go on a carry on doing business in the rest of the world as well," said Belamant.

He also shared his views on the proceedings.
