Cross-examination of IO in Joburg serial killer trial to resume
Updated | By Masechaba Sefularo
The trial of alleged serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi resumed in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Monday morning, with the defence’s cross-examination of investigating officer Bongani Mbonambi.
Mkhwanazi admitted to killing six sex workers and hiding their bodies at his father’s car repairs workshop in the Johannesburg CBD.
The 22-year-old was arrested in October 2022.
Last week, Sergeant Mbonambi testified on what the police believe to be compelling evidence found at the crime scene that links Mkhwanazi to murders.
“Exhibit that was found in that room, be your condoms, underwear, spate and blood it matches the DNA samples that were taken”.

Mbonambi also revealed that the woman whom Mkhwanazi is accused of rape in 2021 and whom he, in his admission, blames for fuelling his killing spree for allegedly falsely accusing him has not testified.
This was due to the fact that the police were unable to trace her.
