CSIR to brief media on water challenges

The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will brief the media on the current water challenges facing the South Africa today.

The CSIR is set to look at the science behind improving water provision in the country and address how the CSIR’s research is informing the management of water resources.


"The CSIR experts will discuss technologies used to monitor water quality and evapotranspiration, the waterless beneficiation of coal, the current La Nina gaining strength as well as the longer term impacts of climate change on our water sources through changes in rainfall patterns and evapotranspiration," the CSIR said in a statment.

This comes amid persistent heatwave conditions over parts of the Free State, North West and Gauteng.


According to the South African Weather Service extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, western and central parts of the Free State and North West province and southern parts of Gauteng.


A heatwave wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the northern part of the Northern Cape, Free State, North-West until Friday and Gauteng until at least Thursday.
