Culpable homicide probe against drivers in fatal train accident
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Police in the Free State say a case of culpable homicide has been opened against the drivers of two vehicles who allegedly crashed into a Shosholoza Meyl train near Kroonstad.

Fourteen people have so far been confirmed dead and scores injured after the Shosholoza Meyl train crashed into a truck and a car.
The crash caused the train to derail and burst into flames.
The provincial police's Sam Makhele says any wrongdoing on the part of the drivers will see them face the full might of the law.
"We have obtained statements from the passengers and other people involved. We have taken the drivers in for some tests and thereafter laying a case in front of the Public Prosecutor who will decide who must be prosecuted."

Reports have surfaced claiming the driver of the truck ignored a stop sign.
Makhele says certain allegations have been made in the statements, but police cannot go into detail at this stage.
Transport Minister Joe Maswangany said his department will work closely with the bereaved families and make sure the culprits are brought to book.
