DA ‘betrayed' as ANC takes back Joburg
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Democratic Alliance (DA) Gauteng chairperson Mike Moriarty has expressed his disappointment at the outcomes of a council meeting which saw African National Congress (ANC) Johannesburg chairperson Geoff Makhubo elected as the new mayor.
Speaking to media shortly after Wednesday’s proceedings, Moriarty said he felt “a sense of betrayal” at the result.
"One of the disappointments is this; you talk to your coalition partners and they say don't worry we're voting for you and then you get a result like this.
"And then you feel betrayed, without a doubt. It is with a sense of betrayal that I am speaking to you but these individuals made their choices. We have to have consultations with coalition partners at a leadership level," he said.
