DA: 'Chickens have come home to roost' for Gauteng health
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says patients and staff at Gauteng state hospitals are currently not safe.
This comes in response to information revealed by Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku that not a single state health facility in Gauteng that underwent a safety audit, was found to be complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
The safety audit was conducted at Gauteng Hospitals and Clinics.
DA spokesperson, Jack Bloom, says the party will continuously monitor the state of the hospitals following these dismal results.
"I am shocked that out of all the public hospitals not a single one passed the audit"
"There are no adequate fire precautions and there are occupational hazards that have been identified," adds Bloom.
Spokesperson for the Health MEC, Kwara Kekana, says they are currently dealing with the safety crisis on a case-by-case basis.
The following facilities were found to be the most non-compliant:
Bheki Mlangeni Hospital
Far East Rand Hospital
Tembisa Hospital
Kopanong
Mamelodi
George Mukhari
Ekurhuleni district clinics
Johannesburg district clinics
