DA to continue with ICASA complaint against SABC
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
The DA said it would continue with its complaint with the Independent
Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) against the SABC for refusing to air
their election adverts.
The DA’s Phumzile Van Damme said the SABC’s explanatory affidavit for why they refuse to air their adverts is a joke.
“The SABC argued that they have to wait to confirm that we are a registered political party and have submitted our lists. This is a joke,” she said.
Van Damme said the SABC also argued it needed to wait until 4 June to investigate the matter.
“The DA is still not clear on what needed to be investigated. Regulations are clear and the DA has complied with these. The request for an investigation was merely a thinly veiled attempt to delay the adverts by a week and therefore limit their effect on the election campaign,” she said.
