DA in Tshwane to lay criminal charges against the ANC

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane is expected to lay charges criminal charges against the African National Congress (ANC) on Monday morning.

This follows an allegation that the ANC forged signatures on a petition which sought to call a special council meeting to remove the Speaker in the City of Tshwane.

The DA said a preliminary investigation by the Office of the Speaker has revealed that some of the signatures were allegedly forged, which it believes amounts to fraud.

The DA Chief Whip in Tshwane Mpho Mehlape-Zimu says the EFF, which also handed in signatures, did not forge names on their petition but had merely made an administrative error.

“If it is found that our colleagues from the ANC did indeed forge those signatures… we will take the matter to SAPS,” says Mehlape-Zimu.

She added she will be referring the matter to the Ethics Rule Committee to investigate the conduct of the councillors.
