The party laid the charges in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

During testimony at the commission of inquiry into state capture, former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi detailed how the company made monthly payments of R50,000 to Mokonyane from2002. He also alleges that the controversial facilities management company catered private Christmas parties, organised family funerals and rented luxury vehicles for Mokonyane’sdaughter.

The party's Natasha Mazzone says the allegations must be investigated.

"We immediately have these charges and allegations investigated now as it's a sitting minister, someone who represents South Africans as we speak and many of these allegations could affect South Africans going forward as of today."

Mazzone believes the country does not have the luxury to be able to wait for Mokonyane to respond to the allegations at the commission.

"I think we have run out of time, we have to act immediately. In fact, we heard this morning that minister Mokonyane did know of these allegations that were coming against her, it's not new news to her. I don't think we are jumping the gun, we are catching things just in time."

Mazzone says the DA will take action every time allegations emerge at the commission.

"As we look at the picture we'll be doing what we need to do to make that South Africanis protected. It may include laying charges, it may include handing in affidavits, whatever is required we will do."

Meanwhile, Mokonyane’s lawyers has written to the Zondo Commission – saying the minister was given insufficient time to respond to the allegations.

"The failure by the commission to afford our client reasons or an opportunity to consider such decision and/or make representations, constitutes a breach of our client's constitutional right to procedural fairness," the letter reads.

Mokonyane believes her rights have been infringed.

She also says she felt betrayed by the commission after media houses called asking for her response to the allegations.
